Why moissanite?
Moissanite is a mineral in its own right – not a diamond – but it is one of the few gemstones that can rival one: in hardness (9.25 out of 10 on the Mohs scale), in clarity and in brilliance. It even has a higher dispersion than diamond, meaning more “fire”: the small rainbow flashes that make it come alive in the light. The resemblance is so close that many standard diamond testers react positively to moissanite – you need a dedicated moissanite tester to tell the difference.
The sparkle has to be seen to be understood. That is why you have 30 days to return: see how it catches the light at home, in daylight and in evening light, and then decide.
Grown, not mined
Natural moissanite is found almost only as microscopic traces in meteorites, so all gem-quality stones are grown in a laboratory. Each stone takes around 2–3 months to grow. No mining is involved – a conscious choice away from a diamond industry associated with major environmental impact and difficult working conditions.
Silver and finish
Beneath the surface is 925 sterling silver: real silver in a quality made to last. The silver is rhodium-plated by electroplating. Rhodium is a precious metal that gives a clear, white look and protects the surface from tarnishing. As with all jewellery plating, it may wear slightly over time with daily use. Moissanite is a gemstone you may not have heard of before, but in recent years it has become increasingly popular thanks to its high quality and its likeness to diamond.
Moissanite is a naturally occurring gemstone discovered in 1893 by the French Nobel Prize-winning chemist Dr. Henri Moissan. It is believed that moissanite originally came to Earth via meteorites.
Natural moissanite is extremely rare (rarer than natural diamond). That is why the vast majority of moissanite is created in a laboratory.
Visually identical to a diamond
- To the human eye, it is impossible to tell moissanite and diamond apart.
- You need a diamond/moissanite tester to measure the difference. In fact, a diamond tester based on thermal conductivity will wrongly register moissanite as diamond, because the two stones are so alike.
The world's second-hardest gemstone
- After diamond, moissanite is the hardest gemstone in the world. It measures 9.25/10 on the Mohs hardness scale.
The world's most brilliant gemstone
- Moissanite has more brilliance than diamond. When light hits a diamond, the same white light is refracted and reflected back out of the stone. When light hits moissanite, however, it splits in two, which increases the refraction.
- Moissanite has a refractive index of 2.69 (compared with diamond's 2.42) – noticeable to a moissanite tester, but not to the human eye.
More "fire" than diamonds
- "Fire" is a gemstone's ability to disperse white light into the colours of the rainbow.
- Moissanite has more "fire" than diamond, with a value of 0.104 (compared with diamond's 0.044).
- Moissanite has 5–7 times more "fire" than ruby, sapphire and emerald respectively.
- This means moissanite outshines almost every other gemstone in the world.
An ethical alternative to a troubled diamond industry
- Sadly, the diamond industry has been linked to many tragic problems, including serious human rights abuses. Poor planning and organisation have also caused major environmental damage, with land and water so badly affected that entire ecosystems have collapsed.
- Our moissanite is a 100% ethical, conflict-free material that is almost identical to diamond. It is not mined but grown in a laboratory (each moissanite gemstone takes 2–3 months to grow). This makes it far easier for us to ensure ethical practices around our moissanite and to check the quality of every single stone. Natural moissanite is extremely rare and often has inherent flaws.

925 sterling silver
The core material of all our jewellery is genuine 925 sterling silver — 92.5% pure silver alloyed with 7.5% copper for strength and durability.
Gold plating
Our gold and rose gold variants have a gold plating applied by electroplating. This gives the piece its colour and shine. As with all jewellery plating, it is not indestructible — it can gradually fade with daily wear and contact with water, perfume and creams.
Care tips for making the plating last as long as possible:
- Take the jewellery off before showering, bathing and exercising
- Avoid contact with perfume, creams and cleaning products
- Store dry and separately from other jewellery
- Wipe gently with a soft cloth when needed
Moissanite
The stone in our jewellery is moissanite — a lab-grown gemstone with a hardness of 9.25 on the Mohs scale (second only to diamond) and high brilliance. Moissanite is not a diamond, but has its own strong sparkle and is far more accessible in price.
Our stones have colour grade D (the highest grade), 0.41 carat, 5 mm diameter.
